Blackfriars Theatre

Blackfriars Theatre is a mid-sized professional theatre that has entertained audiences for 74 years in downtown Rochester. Our mission is to enrich, entertain and inspire our community through exceptional theatrical arts while engaging local talent. We champion the ideals of diverse and challenging storytelling, and we passionately invest in the talent of local artists. We aim to be the leader for small, professionally-minded, artistically-ambitious community theatre in Monroe County. Each year, Blackfriars Theatre reaches approximately 9,000 patrons through our artistic and educational programming. Our audiences hail mainly from Monroe County, but each production regularly draws patrons from the surrounding counties as well, serving the citizens of Western and Central New York. Blackfriars also serves roughly 120+ Rochester-area artists each year with performing, designing, directing and technician opportunities on all of our productions. All ROC the Day donations made to Blackfriars Theatre on November 28th will go directly toward our elevated costume budget for our January/February 2024 production of LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, set in the lavish 18th Century France. And THIS YEAR, your ROC the Day gift will go twice as far, thanks to a matching grant from Kellie and Craig Ronald, who have graciously agreed to match any ROC the Day gifts - dollar for dollar - up to $1,000!

We focus on: Arts and Culture, Community Benefit and Economic Development
