Mt. Hope Family Center

When a child lives with violence and other traumatic experiences, he or she can suffer severe and sometimes permanent physical and emotional consequences. We give these children and their families hope for a better life every day. We conduct long-term research on how trauma affects human development; test our findings in real-life clinical settings, then translate them into evidence-based intervention and prevention therapies we provide to at-risk families in the Rochester area. By integrating research with clinical application, we shorten the time between a research finding and improving a child's life. We also train the next generation of research scientists and clinicians and publish our results so they can help children and families in all neighborhoods make better decisions and build healthy relationships. Although our work is rooted in psychology, we know that other scientific disciplines can improve our work and integrating elements of social work, medicine, and even engineering keep us on the leading edge of our field. Your financial gift can help more parents see this kind of success: "I was at my wits' end. I didn't want to be a parent. I was so messed up. But you Helped me with my mental state and brought me back to reality. Now I feel like I can be a good parent. We're a normal family now." — a mother who participated in our child-parent psychotherapy program
