The Friends of Washington Grove

The Friends of Washington Grove serve as stewards for Washington Grove, a City of Rochester park. We encourage sustainable use of this old growth (never logged) forest gem, which hosts trees hundreds of years old. Working in close collaboration with the City, The Friends seek to inform park visitors and the wider Rochester community about the ecology and history of this valuable resource. We encourage the growth of trees, shrubs and groundcovers native to this oak-hickory forest. We plant native species, remove invasive plants, manage trails and entries to improve their quality and limit their negative impact on vegetation and wildlife, and seek to educate about the healing powers of green space. We depend on the help of volunteers to do this valuable and rewarding work.
