Volunteers of America Upstate New York

For 126 years, Volunteers of America has been serving the Greater Rochester Region with an array of programs designed to help those who are struggling with a hand up, not a hand-out. Our mission is to empower people in our community to rise out of poverty, move toward self-reliance, and reach their full potential. VOA serves more than 6,000 people every year, and our programs include: shelter and support services for homeless individuals and families; care and educational programs for at-risk children; family strengthening services; homelessness prevention programs; reentry services that help incarcerated women and men make a positive transition back into the community; long-term housing for formerly homeless households; a food pantry; and affordable housing for low-income seniors. VOA's programs and services encourage positive development, foster independence, and promote self-sufficiency, providing individuals with the guidance and resources they need to make positive change happen in their lives.
