Wilmot Cancer Institute

UR Medicine’s Wilmot Cancer Institute (WCI) is a leader in cancer care and research in Upstate New York. With a growing research team and an expansive clinical network, WCI develops and delivers life-saving treatments to people with cancer in the Rochester region and beyond. As we continue our pursuit of finding better ways to treat cancer, we rely on the generosity of individuals like you. Your support allows us to recruit and retain the best and brightest cancer researchers, fund promising cancer research, foster collaborative science, and advance cancer clinical trials. Strategic investment in talented people and promising research programs will help our teams strengthen research programs and will lead to a future in which more patients are surviving cancer with a positive quality-of-life. Research areas we are committed to include: • Cancer Prevention and Control: Many cancer patients will experience side effects from treatment, and this dedicated team’s research aims to help us better understand these effects. Our researchers have looked at ways to manage some of the most common effects, such as chemo brain, nausea, and fatigue, among others. • Immunotherapy – What if your immune system could be trained to attack cancer cells? That’s one innovative approach that scientists at Wilmot Cancer Institute are studying. Not only are researchers looking at immunotherapy opportunities in the lab, but Wilmot also offers a number of clinical trials, many of which involve new immunotherapy treatment options only available through a clinical trial. • Basic Science Research – If we want to find new treatments, we have to understand how cancer works on a biological level. That’s where basic science research comes in. Basic science research serves as a foundation for the development of new cancer treatments. Despite its importance, federal funding for this type of research has been declining, making it more difficult to enable discoveries that could lead to better treatments. Your support helps ensure this basic science cancer research can continue in Rochester and it is the key to our future, allowing our researchers, doctors and nurses to stay focused on research and delivering world-class cancer care to our region. We could not do any of this important work without you. Thank you!!
