Friends & Foundation of RPL
Your gift to the Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library will provide critical support to the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County, which has enriched our community’s quality of life for more than a century. Funds raised during ROC the Day will be used to enhance the Library’s digital resources, as well as help provide new books, materials and programming not covered by the annual operating budget.
Did you know that the Central Library:
~ coordinates delivery and cataloging services for all 33 libraries in Rochester & Monroe County (which have a customer base of nearly 500,000), and last year circulated more than *7 MILLION* items (including books, DVDs and digital content)?
~ adds more than 20,000 items annually to its collections, including traditional books and e-books?
~ staffs a Job Resource Center to assist a growing number of people with job searches, resume writing and interview preparation?
~ maintains a Small Business Center to help entrepreneurs develop strong business plans that help foster success?
~ runs the Carlson Patent & Trademark Center in the Science Division which offers researchers and inventors help with national patent searches and registration of new patents?
~ digitizes historic books, newspapers and magazines of local interest in the Local History Division that can be viewed online or downloaded and printed?
Many services can be directly accessed 24/7 at the Library’s website www.libraryweb.org/ where you may also download content directly to your Kindle, iPad or Nook.
From the beginning, the basic mission of the Library has stayed constant: to provide, in a welcoming communal space, open access to information to all the citizens of Monroe County. In 1911, when the library opened, it offered community members access to the world beyond through books, periodicals and knowledgeable staff. Today these essential services remain, but they have been enhanced by the expectations of the 21st century: e-books, audio books, digitized multimedia content, on-demand video and wireless access.
In addition, the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County has begun an ambitious five year, multi-phase plan to reorganize and revitalize space, staff and materials in the downtown Rundel and Bausch & Lomb Library buildings. The plan -- 'From Collections To Community' -- will redesign and redefine much current Library space into a vibrant community center for learning, digital content discovery and exploration.
The Friends & Foundation of RPL works to ensure that the Central Library continues to meet the 21st century needs of all of the citizens of Rochester & Monroe County. We invite you to follow the path taken by our community leaders more than a century ago and invest in our shared future by contributing to the Rochester Public Library. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. For more information, please see www.ffrpl.org
